Ling Zhao, PhD- Lab

Ling Zhao’s lab conducts research to understand how diet can reduce chronic inflammation that is associated with obesity and chronic diseases.

Zhao received her PhD in Molecular and Biochemical Nutrition from the University of California Berkeley and completed the postdoc training at Western Human Nutrition Research Center, ARS, USDA, and University of California Davis before she joined the Department of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2009.

Cellular and molecular basis through which dietary components, pharmacological agents, or environmental exposure (e.g., chemical ingredients in personal care products) increase or decrease the risk of obesity and obesity-associated metabolic diseases (e.g., insulin resistance and diabetes) using cell and animal models.

Myah Trevethan, MS Graduate Student 

Myah is from Wisconsin and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics in 2019. I am a second-year graduate student in the Cellular and Molecular Nutrition program and will be doing dietetic internship rotations in the spring. She hopes to become an RDN and eventually earn a PhD to work in academia.

 

Xinyun (Sherry) Xu, PhD Graduate Student 

Sherry is from China and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Dietetics track from UTK in May 2020. She is currently in the first year of her PhD graduate program. Through nutrition, Sherry has met amazing professors, graduate students, and professionals. She is extremely thankful for all of her experiences and is excited to see where her future in nutrition takes her!
